Introduction to Pilates with Carol Archer.
New class starting 25th April.
Do yoga do pilates using the same pass.
Are you looking to strengthen your body and ease pains and aches?
Pilates is a complete system of exercises to create deep strength to the ‘powerhouse' of musculature which retains a protective corset around the mid-body thereby protecting the vulnerable back.
Carol will give an introduction to Pilates as a method and all the benefits you will see from practising, as a prelude to her regular class starting in April.
You will then be led through an introductory class in which you will experience a variety of different Pilates practices to strengthen, stretch and tone the whole body, including arms, legs and glutes, working with breath and focus.
There will be plenty of opportunity for questions after the practices.
10:00 to 11:30 Friday 19th April
From Yang to Yin - from effort to surrender in a journey through the Koshas.
This 90 minute journey will lead you through some simple yet powerful teachings from the Upanisad , with chanting as well as meditation.
We will enjoy shifting our energies in movement through a balancing and releasing asana (posture) practice which working on many layers of our being (physical, energetic, thought, feelings, subtlest intuition and bliss).
The practice is adapted to all levels (Open level) and then we gradually move into exploring the stillness, pranayama and eventually into a deeply restorative yoga nidra in which Jac will lead you into an exploration of the depths and mysteries of the five layers (koshas) which make up our being.
9:45 to 11:00 Monday 22nd April
Allison leads us through a special prana vinyasa flow which celebrates the cosmic opposites of 'Shiva and Shakti'.
Known in yoga philosophy as the eternal 'beloveds' entwined in the dance of life, 'Shiva' describes the force of nature which is the very fire of transformation, creating opportunity for new growth through destruction of everything which stands in the way of the path.It can seem like a forceful nature – yet it is essential for growth.
'Shakti' describes the divine feminine in her purest and most life-giving form. Mother Nature herself. Together the two exist within everything and everyone. They are as essential to life as breath itself – in fact they are life itself and neither can exist without the other.
'Shiva and Shakti' are one. Like air and its motion, like gold and its lustre”
Alison’s classes are a wonderful combination of mindful, thought provoking, juicy flow sequences, moments of fun and laughter as well as poignancy. You will feel challenged, stretched, released and energised.
Come and enjoy this special Bank Holiday class!
